Hosting from home without exposing your home network

Publishing a website or app from home usually means port forwarding, router changes, and a directly exposed public IP. That creates unnecessary visibility into your home connection.

GhostlyBridge Tunnel gives you a public URL through an outbound-only tunnel instead. Your real IP stays hidden from visitors, your router stays closed, and there is no direct path into your home network.

How GhostlyBridge Tunnel protects your anonymity

GhostlyBridge Tunnel creates an outbound-only encrypted connection from your PC to a secure external tunnel network. Your router never accepts an inbound connection, and your local service is never directly exposed to the internet.

What visitors can reach is the external tunnel endpoint and your public URL. Your real IP stays hidden from visitors, your home network is not directly exposed, and direct access to your local ports is not possible.

  • Every connection starts outbound from your PC. No inbound connections are required.
  • Visitors reach an external tunnel endpoint instead of your real home IP.
  • You get a public URL without opening your router to direct access.

What you do not need

  • No Cloudflare account required.
  • No domain name required.
  • No VPS or external server required.
  • No router or firewall changes required.
  • No signup of any kind required.

What GhostlyBridge Tunnel protects you from

GhostlyBridge Tunnel reduces the most common exposure risks that come with trying to publish something directly from home.

  • Direct access to your home IP
  • Port scanning attempts
  • Exposed router services

If you want an extra privacy layer, you can still place a VPN in front of GhostlyBridge Tunnel so the tunnel provider sees a VPN exit IP instead of your home IP. Affiliate link below.

The only requirement: GhostlyBridge installed

Everything you need for anonymous home publishing is already inside GhostlyBridge. If you also want to hide your IP from Cloudflare, add a VPN on top.

You only need

  • GhostlyBridge on your Windows PC
  • A locally running app or website

You do not need

  • A Cloudflare account
  • A domain name or public IP
  • A VPS or dedicated server
  • Port forwarding or router access

Step-by-step: make a local app public anonymously

This example shows how GhostlyBridge Tunnel can make a local app running on port 5000 public anonymously. The same workflow works for other local services too, as long as you know the local URL and port.

  1. Start your local app and confirm it is reachable on http://localhost:5000.
  2. If you want Cloudflare to see a VPN exit IP instead of your home IP, connect your VPN first.
  3. Open GhostlyBridge on your Windows desktop.
  4. Switch to the MyServer tab and click Add to create a new connection.
  5. Choose Local App as the connection type.
  6. Enter a name, your local URL, and port 5000.
  7. Choose Public with instant random URL, click Next, review the summary page, and save. GhostlyBridge will now create the tunnel automatically.
  8. Copy the public URL once the tunnel is ready.
  9. Open that public URL on another device such as a phone, tablet, or a colleague's laptop, and your local app should load immediately.

From save to a working public URL usually takes only a few seconds because GhostlyBridge Tunnel handles the outbound tunnel setup for you.

What you can use GhostlyBridge Tunnel for

GhostlyBridge Tunnel fits any situation where you want something on your PC to be publicly reachable without exposing your real IP or home network.

  • Make local development projects public anonymously without deploying them first.
  • Show a live client demo from your machine without exposing your home connection.
  • Test webhooks from Stripe, GitHub, Shopify, or any service that needs a public callback URL while keeping your home IP hidden.
  • Give remote access to a local tool, dashboard, or home automation interface without opening inbound connections.
  • Get a quick public preview before spending time on a full deployment.

Important limitations to keep in mind

GhostlyBridge Tunnel is excellent for hiding your IP during public sharing, but it is not designed as a long-term high-traffic production hosting platform.

  • The public URL is randomly generated and may change when the tunnel restarts.
  • The tunnel only runs while GhostlyBridge is open and your PC is on.
  • It is not built for heavy production traffic.
  • If you put a VPN in front of the tunnel, your VPN provider becomes part of the trust chain.
  • For a stable URL that persists across restarts, a custom domain is the right next step and is available as a Pro feature.
